The rice diet is ideal for a quick mental boost to shed a few pounds in a few days. But how does this type of nutrition work, and how long can I keep it up for?
What is the Rice Diet, and how does it work?
Do you have a weakness for rice and want to drop a few pounds quickly? Then the rice diet might be ideal for you! This is because rice is the main component of the meals, making it one of the so-called mono-diets. The rice diet can help you lose up to three kilograms in a few days by naturally lowering your calorie intake (about 850 to 1,000 kcal per day).
The rice diet was actually invented to treat high blood pressure. The German-American Dr. Walter Kemper developed the diet concept to provide his patients with a diet as low in sodium as possible.
The rice diet's mechanism of action
Rice is coupled with more or less other food at each meal, depending on whether one wishes to lose weight with the highly strict or the loose variation of the rice diet. If the principle is strictly followed, rice is consumed in the first Di? twice daily to all three meals, in fact, one 60 gram quantity (dry weight) each. A little applesauce or salad can be eaten with it to change up the flavor.
Fruit and vegetables are added to the cuisine in week two, while fish and lean meats (such as chicken) are added in week three. Water or unsweetened herbal tea is the finest option. All additives (meat, fruit, etc.) are acceptable if we want to keep the rice diet reasonable.
What are the benefits of the diet?
The effect of this form of diet can be quickly seen: Rice binds water and contains a lot of potassium (especially whole grain rice, which also contains healthy fiber). This helps to dehydrate the body. And the rice diet has even more advantages:
- Few calories
- Gluten-free, therefore also suitable for celiac disease patients
- metabolism is stimulated
What are the disadvantages of the rice diet?
Ultimately, the rice diet is also only a temporary change in diet, which can make a few kilos disappear in the short term, but carries a great risk of the unpleasant yo-yo effect. The diet has the following disadvantages:
- Very one-sided and therefore difficult to keep up
- Low protein content, which promotes muscle breakdown
- Unlike low carb, energy comes mainly from carbohydrates. It can come to vitamin and nutrient deficiency
What should I avoid when dieting?
Some foods should be completely removed from the menu during the rice diet:
- Smoked
- Cured
- Salt
- Greasy
Finally, the rice diet's success, like that of many other diets, is largely attributable to its dehydrating impact. This can be motivating when starting a diet change, but the diet should not be kept for longer than a few days. Because the body receives too little nutrients, stringent variation should not be used.
